As everyone is aware, men unlike women struggle to talk about there feelings due to the stigma around mental health. Here at www.ohlalashop.co.uk, we feel coping with mental health needs to be talked about more openly. Did you know? 1 in 6 people in the past week will experience a common mental health problem. We have read this week that one way to try and deal with mental health in order to cope with your mental health is to use the “CAN DO” method. This is “CAN DO” method stands for:

is for Connect: this could be face to face while keeping 2 meters apart or on a video call.

is for Active: Try to set goals on exercise as exercising is known to naturally increase your mood through the endorphins.

is for Notice: This could even be just turning off your phone for an hour and get outdoors and see nature. Just take notice of your moods and act on them take time out to be calm.

is for Discover: Learn something new, this will build your mood as it will give you a satisfaction from completing something new.

is for Offer: Do something for someone else this could even be something really small as picking up a prescription for someone or do some small shopping to help those isolating.

It is known that we can control and maintain our physical health but in order to be healthy and happy we must have good mental health. An extremely well known mental health charity is Heads Together, on the website there is a video of Gareth Southgate talking about his mental health in the football industry. There is many stories so you don’t have to feel ashamed to talk about the most important thing; mental health. Mental health doesn’t discriminate, even the person next to you could be suffering with mental health so make sure you ask friends and family how they are coping with the current Covid-19 restrictions.

Another great video to watch which addresses mental health is the World Health Organisation video I had a black dog, his name was depression.

Men’s physical health is more poorer than women’s. In the UK alone, 15.9% of men smoked compared with 12.5% of women. This then damages your lungs which could then lead to health problems such as lung disease as well as heart disease. Men are also two times more likely to binge drink more than women. Approximately, 22% of men report binge drinking and do so 5 times a month. During their binge drinking they consume 8 drinks per binge. This equates to 40 alcoholic drinks per month. Not only is this not good for your liver but it could lead to a number of series health problems. It is always better to talk to someone about physical or mental problems rather than not. A problem shared is a problem halved.
