Oh La La Shop Ltd Uk

March 2017

It has been almost impossible to keep a regular blog going as we tend to be so busy running Oh La La Ltd on a day to day basis that we never get the time to sit down and compile a regular blog.  After talking with our website guru we now know that we have to set aside some time to keep a regular blog going.

The last 8 months have been a real eye opener for us as a company as we see on a weekly basis companies throwing in the towel and closing their doors.  We learnt in June that a market we were attending was struggling and unfortunately by 17th of December last year it finally closed its doors after over a decade of trading.  It was a very sad day and left us knowing that we would have to work twice as hard this year to make things work for us.

The Alternative & Burlesque Market.

My last trip to the Alternative and Burlesque Market in Manchester started very early as we had to be in Manchester for 10am and its a 4 hour journey to the event.  We arrived and started unpacking unfortunately knowing that this would be the last time we would have the opportunity to do this market.  We quickly got the stand up and stocked and the event opened around lunch time.  With a steady flow of customers the day went past without a hitch and we were packing up getting ready to return to South Wales.  We packed away the last box of stock and wished the organisers of the event all the best in the future and with a heavy heart we started our 4 hour journey back to South Wales.

Whilst writing this blog I thought I would do some research and see how many markets we did in 2016 compared to how many we will be doing this year.  It came as a great shock that we realised that last year we were doing at least 5 events a month all over the UK.  All bar one has now closed its doors and we only attend one event in Bristol on the second Sunday of the month.  It is such a shame that so many venues have closed and so many people now struggle to find venues and events to go to.

Our New Website www.ohlalashop.co.uk

We knew last summer that the markets were on thin ice and that we had to take action to bring in more revenue from our website.  This prompted us into investing £3300 in revamping our site and SEO.  We had to chose a new colour scheme and sharpen the look of the site amongst thousands of other tweaks.  We are still going through the stock pages adding colour and better details it is like a never ending job as soon as you finish one section another section needs attention.  We hope to have the site absolutely finished by the summer.

We also knew that we would have to spread our wings broader in order to increase sales so we started marketing in foreign languages and also adding at every point that we offered same day world wide dispatch, and so far it has worked.  Our outside the UK sales have gone from 28% of turn over to 42% an increase of 14%.  We are obviously thrilled with the new revenue and plan to be more pro active in trying to market our company abroad especially in the Middle East where we feel there is a gap in the market which we could explore.

March is going to be a very busy month for us.  Even though the markets have closed we still find ourselves flying off to the small corners of the world trying to find new and great products for our website.
Preview showing of Sexposed.

We are in London on the 2nd of March firstly at a business to business meeting in the Jewel Bar, Piccadilly, where we hope to network with like minded business owners.  We have then been invited to attend the preview screening of Sexposed at the Sanctum Soho London.  We are really looking forward to this event and it gives me an excuse to go early and go shopping.

We then are attending the only market we have left on Sunday 12th of March, which we have been attending for some years now.  We finish there at 6pm, and then make a mad dash home to dump the stock boxes throw our cases in the car and leg it to Luton airport to get the first flight to Amsterdam to attend the Scala Playhouse trade fair.

March Events List.
We have found that we are inundated with emails asking if we know of any events worth going to so we thought we would always finish our blogs with a round up of what events we think are worth a look at.
The first is on the 5th of March,
G-Silicone @ L.A.M
London Alternative Market takes place in a huge club in the centre of the City district in London. It is super easy to find the only draw back is there is no car parking outside the venue you can easily drop people off but it does mean a 5 min drive to find suitable parking for your vehicle and a short walk back to the venue. If you have any questions about parking do not hesitate to contact L.A.M via email.
Revolution Club City of London
Revolution club on Leadenhall Street is the venue for what be one of the largest fetish market and parties in the country. It is held on three floors and market traders travel in from all over the UK to set up and sell their goods.  As well as the market traders there are also workshops put on throughout the day. This month the workshops will be covering flogging, fear play as well as mental health. The market opens at 12pm and closes at 6pm and there is an hour for the traders to clear their stalls out and then at 7pm there is an after party. We can highly recommend this event we personally know some of the traders such as G-Silicone (Godemiche) and know that you won't leave disappointed.

The second event is on the 12th of March
SWAMP Bristol

Inside OMG Club
SWAMP is a fetish market very similar to London Alternative in the sense that there is a market 1pm till 6pm and then an after party from 7pm. It is held in a night club in the centre of Bristol called OMG. Even though this event is not as big as the London Alternative, what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in quality. This is a super friendly event and is ideal for anyone new to the fetish scene. As soon as you walk in you will be made very at ease and do not worry if you coming alone everyone is so friendly and welcoming it won't be long before you are chatting away to all and sundry.
The third event is on the 19th of March
Inside Nightingales
Birmingham Bizarre Bazaar is another fetish event held in a nightclub called Nightingale on Kent Road Birmingham. This venue is very well situated and very easy to access via the motorway.
The Home of B.B.B
It offers a large market from 11am till 5pm and an after party in the evening. Again this event is ideal for beginners it offers a meet and greet service so you will be made to feel welcomed when you arrive. The event also offers various demos throughout the day these are varied and you can find out what the demo will be in March by going to their website.
We also know of many events local to ourselves and we are happy to steer people in the direction of the better and safer events so drop us an email at emma@ohlalashop.co.uk and we will be glad to help out. All events that we promote are for adults and all run a strict age restriction of 18 years old if you are in any doubt about the rules of these events then please locate the information their websites.

Well that just about wraps up this blog keep your eyes peeled for the next one in the middle of March and we hope you have a fab March.
